THE CLUTCHES OF ANXIETY

Anxiety as defined by the dictionary is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.

However, for those of us that suffer from anxiety it is so much more… it is a feeling of complete horror that keeps us on constant edge even about the smallest things.

You feel throttled by it and even through all the fighting to get free of it’s clutches it’s always seemingly impossible. And the worst part of facing anxiety is when those near and dear ones just shrug it off as ‘nothing’ or in your ‘imagination’ not having their support through those crucial periods of anxiety can leave one terrified and panic-stricken.

For a long time anxiety seemed to be the only thing that existed around me, I felt a constant nauseating feeling in the pit of my stomach even about the smallest situations.

My worst anxiety attack struck when I was in the Holy Lands of Madinah on my way to the Qabar (grave) of the Prophet Sallalahu Alayhi Wassalam, the crowd overwhelmed me and I found myself in tears and terrified of all the people.

I turned away and walked toward the door with every intention to leave but found myself at the back on a Musallah (prayer mat) with the beautiful words of the Quraan Kareem playing in my head:

‘VERILY IN THE REMEMBERANCE OF ALLAH DO HEARTS FIND EASE’

I thought of all the bounties that my Lord had bestowed upon me and begun to praise and glorify Him and it was in that moment that I finally found myself free from the clutches of anxiety.

May you find yourself in pure bliss and free of all anxiety and worries, leave it all in the hands of the one who created you as He will never burden you with more than you can bare.
