I am stronger than what you think or say about me by Binte Moosa

As a kid or teen, we often pass people or hear from so and so certain phrases that we would take to heart. A phrase so piercing, we would never forget, allowing it to play repeatedly in our minds.
One such phrase I would like to focus on today is “you're so tall, you're like a giraffe.”
In any instance if someone had to call us a dog, a pig, fat or skinny, we would get offended instantly, and would either lash out or start hating that person. In most instances we tend to enter into a shell, without a sound or a beating, we begin to hate. Hate that individual for calling me a giraffe, hate growing, hate our height, hate ourselves and our physical appearance.
This hatred could sometimes increase so much, that it creates a monster, who will cause havoc to make themselves feel better when seeing other's in pain.
Im sure there's one phrase, one statement, a message, an absolute distaster which some of you have experienced at some point in your life, it kept you going back and forth,  left you numb and flabbergasted when it was thrown at your face, which you play like a broken tape recorder before attending any social event, make a public appearance, or considering making new friends.
Days, weeks , months sometimes  even years have passed and you're still insecure about yourself due to the past experience.
Girl, I just want to let you know that you're stronger than what anyone else thinks of you , you're stronger than those hurtful bile words thrown at your face, you're stronger and more beautiful each day that passes. Your physique and your mind are your true weapons against any intruder who let's your self esteem down.
Keep believing in your self and you will bloom again with a new fragrance.
