How To Deal With Grief. Part Two

As the adage reads, “you are what you eat,” we can easily deduce that healthier foods and particularly those prescribed in the hadeeth are the most nutritious for one's mind and body.
Among many others that I've been intrigued by is, a particular dish/porridge prescribed in the hadeeth for sadness and grief that has scientifically produced intensely beneficial findings.
Let's talk “Talbeenah” – A prophetic cure from the following authentic traditional narration: التلبينة مجمة لفؤاد المريض و يذهب ببعض الحزن
Talbeenah soothes the heart of the sick person and dispels some of his grief.
(Bukhari Hadeeth No. 5102. Muslim, No. 2216. Mishkaat)
In the past, psychologists used to count on the psychological analysis and its theories in diagnosing psychological disorders. However, in our current era – alhamdulillāh due to the enormous advances in science and medical research – neurologists explain sadness as a chemical failure, as is proven that some chemical components play an important role in the mood or mental/psychological state of of a human, such as potassium and magnesium, antioxidants and others. All these components are present in wheat grain – called گیہو in Urdu – and our Rasulullāh صلي الله عليه وسلم has illustrated this when he said that it takes away sadness. How beautiful right?
To explain how these components affect the psychological state, we shall mention the most important of these components in what, which are anti-sadness;
METALS: Both potassium and magnesium have an important effect on the nervous connections which actually helps smoothing ones humourous tendencies. When potassium significantly decreases in ones body, unhappiness, nervousness and stress is stimulated. (This is another reason why bananas are really healthy too, considering their significant content of potassium.)
As wheat contains these two important components, it is obvious that Talbeena boosts sadness.
(To be continued inshāAllāh: Benefit and findings as well as preparation methods for talbeena.)
