I AM A WOMAN JUST LIKE YOU
Some say I’m a strong-minded woman
Some tell me I’m an inexorable woman
Some think I’m unswerving,
While others think I’m weak, or like every women they knew and expect more of me.
Others would be perfect plastics and living in a fantasy world, whereas I am a real woman, the real deal.
There’s more to me than you see,
There’s more than just a pretty face.
I may walk with my head held high, yet there’s pain hidden in my pride.
I may live in my emotions, and you observe and belittle me.
I am not perfect
I am not unbreakable
You see me in the day and think I’m doing well, but when no one is around, I scream without a sound.
I put up a strong front, yet every night I go to bed hugging my tear stained pillow and shed silent tears.
I may be a woman but I will not let you define me.
I am an independent woman
I don’t need the media to define who I am or what I should be.
Don’t undermine me
Don’t undermine my voice
I’m not your slave
I have feelings just like you
So think carefully before speaking because I am a woman just like you .
Don’t break me, help me fix myself
Don’t laugh when I fall, help me get up
Don’t judge me, get to know me
Don’t assume, ask
Don’t have expectations of me, accept me as the person I am.
The woman I should be, not what you want me to be.
