The Importance of Upholding Family Ties
The Importance of Upholding Family Ties: Once a camel came to our beloved Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), leant forward and whispered something in his ears.
The camel actually complained about the treatment it was receiving from it’s master to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) .
Our Nabi (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) met the Ansari sahaabi who owned the camel and said he has a request.
The Sabaabi said: “May my parents be sacrificed upon you Ya Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam.
What is your request?”
Nabi (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) asked him to gift the camel to him and the Ansari Sahaabi gladly complied and gifted it.
Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) approached the camel and said “You are free now, your days of hardship are over”.
The camel then made a strange sound and Rasulullah (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) said “Aameen”. This occurred three times and upon the fourth time, he (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) began crying.
The Sahaba asked Nabi (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) what transpired, and he said that the camel made four duas.
The First dua(Prayer):
“May Allah rid you of your fears like the way you rid me of mine.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu
‘Alayhi Wasallam) said “Aameen”.The Second dua:
“May Allah protect your ummat from being completely destroyed by some disaster.”
Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam said “Aameen”.The Third dua :
“May Allah protect your ummat from being completely destroyed by a tyrannical ruler.”
He (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “Aameen”.The Fourth dua :
“May Allah protect your ummat from their hearts becoming disunited, from breaking up into groups and fighting with one another.”
When the fourth dua was made, Angel Jibra’eel (Alaihis Salaam) descended and informed me that this dua cannot be accepted.
This answer so deeply affected Nabi (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam that he started crying profusely.
Lesson:
It is very important to keep family ties. When dealing with family members, one should rather opt to become the oppressed one, and not cause disunity in the family for small petty issues. The same applies to our friends and society in general.
In another hadith, our Nabi (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) said something to the effect:
“Family ties is holding onto the Arsh of Allah. Every morning and evening, family ties addresses Allah and says “Oh my Rabb, join the one who joins me. The one who preserves me, preserve him, and the one who destroys me, destroy him” .
We need to be always the better person, forgive, and try to make peace within our family. We all need to make dua to Allah Ta’ala to soften our hearts and take away the hatred and malice within us . Don’t destroy our Jannat for some worldly ego or benefit. It’s not worth it.
Please do not forget to remember this sinful slave in your duas.
